Program Objectives

The Department of Social Work is committed to the following:

  1. Echoing the aging society in Taiwan and gaining affiliation with the World Health Organization (WHO).
     
  2. Fitting in with the trend of internationalized welfare enterprise.
     
  3. Enhancing the quality and quantity of the related healthcare professionals.
     
  4. Following the university’s holistic development goal.
     
  5. Conforming to the School of Healthcare’s aim of responding to the needs of citizens’ health and work conditions as well as life quality.
     
  6. Attempting to enhance the fundamental abilities for community practice and fostering social work professionals with a broad international sight.

MISSION

Based upon the university's mission to deliver care, innovative and prominent education, this department established a postgraduate program, and works hand in hand with welfare organizations. It aims to equip students with the capacities of humanity, profession and innovation and with the ability to act at the grass roots as well as at a more comprehensive level. Upon graduation, the students are expected to be capable of participating in social welfare services, and promoting a warm, harmonious and healthy community development.

• Close Staff-students Relationship: The department is proud of its close staff-students relationship and supportive atmosphere, providing students a friendly learning environment.

• Flexible but Professional Curriculum: The department is adaptive to social trends and changes in labor market. Undergraduates will have to choose at least one of the modules: Social Work Specializing Module, Health Care and Community Work Module, and Empowerment and Judiciary System Module.

• The Integration of Classroom Learning and Practicum of Community Organization and Development: The department has dedicated to equip students with social work theories and practical abilities. It has put equal weights on the introduction of three principal social work methods: casework, group work, and community work. The department has long been involved with the developments of local communities, offering students a unique opportunity to carry out methods of community work practice.

• The Emphasis on Multicultural Education: The department has guaranteed an annual intake of ten indigenous students, who have contributed a great deal to the enhancement of the department’s multicultural learning environment. Accordingly, the department has established a strong tradition on teaching and researching social policy/social work in relation to the minorities in Taiwan.

• Strong Research Capacity: The Department of Social Work has 15 full-time academic staff specializing in a variety of subjects, including various areas in social work, community development, ethnicity and multicultural social policy/social work, social work in the judiciary system, counseling and guidance, and sociology, etc. It also has very close link/collaboration with other academic institutes domestically and internationally.
